Getting Started with Activity Types

An Activity Type represents a specific Member interaction or behavior that the Loyalty platform is able to track and record.

Each Activity Type comprises a list of Attributes that describe the Member interaction. These Attributes are divided into two main categories: Header Attributes and Line Item Attributes.

Header Attributes describe the interaction itself. For example, a Purchase Activity Type could include Header Attributes such as: Subtotal, Total, and Tax.

Line Item Attributes are optional, and are used to describe item-level details, if applicable to the Activity. Continuing the above example, a Purchase Activity Type could include Line Item Attributes such as: SKU, Quantity, and Item Description.

Client applications, such as a Point of Sale system or a website, must submit these Attributes to the Loyalty platform to correctly capture and track each instance of an Activity Type.

Loyalty supports a wide range of pre-configured default system Activity Types that are designed to support many common loyalty programs. Examples of default Activity Types include Challenge, Coupon, Purchase, Earn Adjustment, Offer, and Punch Card Completion. The default Activity Types can be identified by the “sl_” prefix in their Internal Name. These default Activity Types can be edited to include new Header or Line Item Attributes, but you can't edit or delete any of its existing default Attributes. You can also create custom Activity Types in order to meet your specific business requirements.

From the Activity Types screen, you can view information about all the Activity Types defined in your Loyalty account. To access the Activity Types screen, select Program from the top navigation bar, then select Activity Types from the side navigation menu.

For more information on the search options available on the Activity Types screen, see Search for an Activity Type.
